Over the years, many individual NJEA members and local associations have benefited from The Paul Dimitriadis Rights Fund, Inc.

What is the The Paul Dimitriadis Rights Fund?
The Paul Dimitriadis Rights Fund, Inc., a non profit organization, provides financial assistance to local associations and individuals involved in crisis situations.  Funding is solely by contribution.

How does it help in a crisis?
Local associations sometimes become involved in situations resulting in various types of job actions.  The fund is there to offer financial assistance to individuals and local associations in crisis.

Does the fund provide other assistance?
In past years, members in Jersey City, Fair Lawn, Passaic, Freehold Regional, and Matawan have been provided with assistance.  The fund has also provided assistance to Middletown Township, Elizabeth, East Brunswick, Bayonne, Jersey City, and Hamilton Township.

Where does the money come from?
Individuals, locals, and county associations contribute to the fund.  Many locals have contributed more than $5000 and county organizations have contributed more than $50,000 a year.  Also, there is a committee of NJEA members who donate their time to sell items at conventions, workshops, and meetings to help raise money.

When was it established?
The fund was established in 1968 as the NJEA Teacher Rights Fund.

Why is it called The Paul Dimitriadis Rights Fund?
In 1978, Paul Dimitriadis was elected Vice President of NJEA and was also serving as chairperson of the NJEA Fair Play Committee.  He was considered a champion of members' rights.  His untimely death, however, prevented Mr. Dimitriadis from taking office and at that point, the Teacher Rights Fund was renamed in his honor.

Is the fund an NJEA Committee?
No.  The Paul Dimitriadis Rights Fund, Inc. was established in 1977 as a separate corporation from NJEA.
